you have questions, we have answers
If you don’t find the answer here, feel free to ask Dr. Elsey directly!
No! DO NOT FLUSH our litter. These litters are designed to form hard clumps. A “flushable” clumping litter is a contradiction. If it dissolves or breaks apart in a toilet, it will break apart in a litter box. A true clumping litter is more convenient for you and better for your cat.
Dr. Elsey’s clumping clay litter is not biodegradable and should not be disposed of in the yard or garden whether it has been used or not. Bacteria in cat waste can be harmful to other humans and animals. The bacteria in the used litter can cause an illness known as toxoplasmosis that can be particularly harmful to pregnant women or infants if touched or handled.
Quartz is naturally mined and present in all our clay litter. Some of the pieces are larger than others but are not harmful.
Yes. Low glycemic ingredients can reduce or eliminate the need for insulin in diabetic cats. Diabetic cats benefit from cleanprotein’s low carbohydrate levels, less than 8% compared to leading Diabetic Managements foods with carbohydrate levels as high as 20%.
We don’t suggest using it more than 6 months past the best by date. Past that date it starts going stale but does not go rancid.
We do not recommend clumping clay litter with kittens before they are weaned, because they go through a litter tasting phase. We suggest starting to use a clumping clay litter once the kitten is weened – typically around 8 weeks.
Our ingredients are carefully sourced and chosen based on quality. We try to source as many ingredients as possible from the United State, but many vitamins and minerals included in pet food are manufactured in the US. While nearly 90% of our ingredients are from the US, we source others from Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Scotland, and Canada. We are extremely careful with our selection of each vendor to ensure they stick to equal or greater manufacturing standards that we have here in the US. I hope this helps. Thank you for taking the time to reach out.
We recommend contacting the litter box manufacturer to see what litter they recommend using.
Due to the extrusion process during manufacturing, the appearance of the food may vary. We do not use any starch or fillers, which can also impact the size of the kibble. Our most recent batch is slightly smaller and lighter in color than previous kibble batches.
The Ultra Litter Attractant works on a smell premise and to ensure its effectiveness, we recommend using it with only unscented, clumping clay litter. Any other smell in natural litter or perfumes can mask the smell, and it may not work properly.
Since our clay litter is a natural product, it can vary in texture and color.
Making the transition from your cat’s current food should be gradual to prevent any digestive upsets. We would suggest 1/4 new diet to 3/4 old diet for the first week. Second week 1/2 and 1/2. Third week 3/4 new food to 1/4 old food. Fourth week give just the new food. It can take a month or more for their intestinal bacteria to fully adjust to a new diet.
